DREAM THEATER The Astonishing

Ok...I know there is a lot of confliction about this record and people have their different opinions on its execution, but I am one of those who is not afraid to admit that I quite liked this record...I'm not saying that its a bad album or a great album, I think it sits somewhere in middle ground along with albums like 'Falling into Infinity' and 'When Day and Dream Unite', which in turn weren't really Dream Theater's strongest moments or that's what I think. Getting back to the album itself I found that this had a different curve on the music as it seems to be more dominated by Piano, Keyboard and orchestration rather than the extreme guitar and synth work Dream Theater is better known for, I'm not saying different is a bad thing though as bands tend to change music styles to suit a particular audience to attracted new fans while trying to keep old fans interested and coming back for more, but it seemed that this lighter approach put off a lot of old DT fans sadly. The only thing I was disappointed with was John Myoung's bass lines couldn't be heard and Mike Mangini's druming was a little too simplistic in places, but I enjoyed the concept of the record, I will say that when you first listen to it you really need to have the lyric book open so you know which character James LaBrie is portraying in turn and you really need to have alot of focus/concerntration for this record due to the duration of it...131 minutes worth of music and lyric content over 2CDs...glad I did have focus for this album...I would only say listen to this if you have the time and patience for it.

HAJI'S KITCHEN Twenty Twelve

Album · 2012 · Progressive Metal

Twenty Twelve is the third album to be released by Haji's Kitchen and the first album to be released in over a decade since Suckerpunch in 2001, this album is classified as a demo rather than a full length album due to the first half of the album being consisted of 6 vocals tracks and 2 instrumental pieces while the other half of the album is the vocal tracks in instrumental form. Three of the tracks were released previously before 'Day after Day' and 'Lost' which were released on an English Adaptation of one of the Dragonball Z films and 'Notch' was released separately, but the way they were delivered on this album were pretty good even though I found 'Notch' to be quite weak compared to the original. Current Tesseract vocalist Daniel Tompkins delivered his diverse voice rather well on this album especially on the track 'Define the Lie' which to me was the main highlight of the album, this is a good effort by Haji's Kitchen after all this time but to me I'd see this as a fan only buying album rather then one you would just buy in a music shop if it caught your eye, worth a listen in my opinion.

TREMONTI Cauterize

Album · 2015 · Alternative Metal

Cauterize is the second album by Creed/Alterbridge guitarist Mark Tremonti, and is just a powerful and melodic as he debut 'All I was' which was released back in 2012, this album brings back Eric Friedman on Rythem guitar duties and Garret Whitlock on drums...but with a new addition in the form of Bass player Wolfgang Van Halen after he replaced Brian Marshall after the release of Tremonti's debut album.

The music itself is just as what you'd expect from Mark Tremonti just as he displayed on his first album, with the first track 'Radical Change' bringing in the fast paced pulse pounding riffs that is also brought on in other tracks such as 'Another Heart' 'Arm Yourself' and the albums title track 'Cauterize' not only does Mark bring the fast paced riffs like on 'All I Was' but he also displays his soft melodic style that all Creed/Alterbridge fans know him for only bringing a more errie feel to it like on the song 'Dark Trip' and with the albums closing song 'Providence'

The album itself is amazing and worth a listen for any Creed/Alterbridge/Tremonti fan out there, I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first and I hope Mark continues to deliver just as he always does.
