Even better, to my mind, than the incredible Atomizer, on Songs About Fucking the Big Black sound takes on a cancerous, apocalyptic quality, establishing a terrifying sound which begins worming its way into your brain from the first chords of The Power of Independent Trucking and cuts deeper and deeper until it all builds up to a glorious closer in the form of a sneering, ugly cover of Cheap Trick He's a Whore. Sorry, Steve Albini - but in this instance, CD is flatly better than vinyl, because you left the best song your band ever recorded off the vinyl edition of this essential post-hardcore landmark.
