Saint Vitus' V is the sludgiest album of the band's career, with the obligatory Sabbath-inspired guitar riffs fuzzier than ever before. Wino's final release with the band (before their upcoming reunion album, that is) sees him on reasonable form, but the star of the show here absolutely has to be Dave Chander, whose guitar work drags the band's sound into an entirely original space and finally moves them out of the shadow of their influences. Of all of Saint Vitus' original run of albums, this is far and away my favourite, and it's an essential listen for all fans of traditional doom metal.
