What happens if you lock Dream Theater and Type O Negative in a nightclub overnight with a stack of industrial and dance albums? The end result might sound something like Braindance's Redemption, which essentially consists of prog metal-inspired song structures with Peter Steele vocals spiced up by elements of industrial dance music. It's an fascinating mix, but I feel that the band are perhaps trying to mash up a few too many genres at once; the dance music elements, in particular, seem a little underbaked, and in particular the use of samples from film and television is sloppily applied, the samples lasting well after the general point has been conveyed and beginning to feel more like filler, or band-aids to cover compositional shortcomings. An interesting but failed experiment.
