Crypt Sermon's debut album finds the band recapturing the sound of their 1980s traditional doom metal influences perfectly. When you get down to it, Crypt Sermon's sound is basically a mashup of the musical approach of classic-era Candlemass with the Christian lyrical themes of early Trouble. Whilst some may find them a little unoriginal as a result, I think they manage to knock this particular sound out of the park; after all, if you're at all keen on traditional doom metal you'll always be glad to hear a band who's able to make this well-trod style sound fresh and exciting again, and Crypt Sermon manage to do just that.
