Helstar-Multiples of Black

After the masterpiece that was 'Nosferatu', Helstar went on hiatus for a bit until 1995 when they released the usually forgotten 'Multiples of Black'. On 'Multiples of Black', Helstar ditched most of the power/speed metal styles from their previous albums and made a mostly thrash album. Even without power and speed, Helstar ended up making another masterpiece and one of their best albums.

The album begins with Rivera saying 'Deep in the angry city, the hatred starts to wake' in the song 'No Second Chance'. The song is very different from previous albums, with pure crunching thrash guitar. Next is the distorted riffs that begin 'Will I Catch It Again'. It is another strong thrash song, with Rivera giving some very strong vocals and lyrics. A great solo with comes in with great rhythm guitar. Some great traditional guitar ends the song. 'When We Only Bleed' is probably my favorite from this album, with great social lyrics and riffs that you can't help but head-bang. 'Reality' is an odd track at first, but is actually a very beautiful short acoustic song with a nice solo. Now comes the menacing riffing of 'Good Day to Die', and could of easily been a thrash metal classic. The finale 'Black Silhouette Skies' really stands out, and ends the album perfectly with choir and menacing vocals and guitar. Also included is a great cover of the Judas Priest classic 'Beyond the Realms of Death'.

Overall, I would highly recommend this album to any fan of thrash metal. It's certainly an underrated gem of thrash metal.
