Lacrimosa's second album is pretty much Angst part 2 - right down to the cover art, which shows that the carnival from the cover of Angst has packed up and left the poor Lacrimosa mascot all on his lonesome. The same lineup as the debut album performs here and on the whole the compositions seem to be just a shade more together this time around, with the group's symphonic leanings beginning to become evident; indeed, some sections album, such as parts of the opening track Tränen der Sehnsucht, put me in mind of a neo-prog band dabbling in goth rock on the side. That said, the band still don't seem to be firing on all cylinders and for the middle of the album my attention tends to wander.
