Holy d'Hiver! Six years has passed since the last new demo release from Paysage d'Hiver and Das Tor does not disappoint. Keeping a finely-judged balanced between ambient sounds of winter storms and icy-cold forest streams on the one hand and angry black metal eruptions that sound distant reverberations from a war ongoing somewhere far, far away. Paysage can usually be counted on to produce evocative, atmospheric black metal that instantly conveys the desired frosty, winter-bound mood and Das Tor proves that the mysterious Wintherr hasn't lost his knack in the intervening years. Let's hope there's more tapes where this came from, because I'm certainly not tired of Paysage yet.
