DERKÉTA picture
Derkéta is a death metal band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania formed in 1988. They released a rehearsal tape in 1988, a demo in 1989 titled "The Unholy Ground" and in EP in 1991 titled "Premature Burial". They split up after recording the EP, but reformed in 1997. They subsequently released a split with Nunslaughter in 1997 and appeared on a 4-way split with Gravewürm, Witchburner and Sadomaniac in 2002. In 2003 a discography CD titled "Goddess of Death" was released. Two members of Derketa play in the brutal death metal band Eviscium.

While the band didn´t release anything between 2003 and 2012, they released their debut full-length studio album "In Death We Meet" in 2012.

If you think about it, bestial vocals in metal have the capability to be great equalisers. Take this debut album from Derkéta, an all-female death metal band who've been around for decades but haven't brought together a full album until now. The next time you catch someone assuming that female vocals in metal automatically equate to clean vocals thrown in to add a pretty air to a song, have them listen to some of Sharon Bascovsky's absolutely grotesque growls on here. A collection of old school death metal compositions done right, In Death We Meet is a terrifying encounter which convinces me that Derkéta may be death metal's most criminally underrated band.
