HELLYEAH UNDEN!ABLE reviews

Specialists/collaborators reviews

Unitron
Unden!able is the fifth studio album from groove metal band Hellyeah.

Hellyeah is one of THOSE supergroups. You know the kind, the ones that contain some great musicians from well-respected bands but the result falls below your expectations. Well, now that it's been almost a decade since the band's self-titled debut, Hellyeah is here with their fifth studio offering. I will admit that their last album, Blood for Blood, was pretty good. So how does this album fare?

Well, it kicks ass in the beginning with the song "X". This is in fact the greatest song the band has made, sounding like what Mudvayne would sound like had they continued after their self-titled album. It's a total thrasher with a fist pumping groove and killer soloing. "Blood Plague" is also a killer track, great vocals from Chad Grey and an absolutely killer groove.

Unfortunately, the rest of the songs are either completely forgettable or songs that don't fit on the album at all. I can't understand why a metal band would cover a Phil Collins song, but turning a non-metal song metal can sound great. Unfortunately this one is just boring, as is the majority of the album. "Love Falls" is the only song that I would call bad, being an awful ballad, but I can't say boring is much better.

I guess if you want some generic groove metal, give this a listen. Otherwise, listen to "X" and "Blood Plague", then forget the rest. It's a shame that the rest of the album wasn't of the same quality of the two aforementioned tracks.
