About this release

The album was released along with Thank you Ohlinger's on November 2 digitally with a limited edition consisting of 300 copies of an untitled white album signed by Buckethead himself to be released on November 22. Like Feathers, the album was signed with red ink instead of the traditional black ink used in all the previous limited editions.

A standard edition was announced but has not yet been released.

PIKE 36 - THE PIT is the 25th album released in the PIKE series by BUCKETHEAD in 2013 and the 65th overall solo studio album. This is yet another eclectic instrumental album that BH graces us with his instrumental prowess and production handled by Dan Monti and Albert once again. This PIKE has SEVEN tracks all titled “The Pit” Parts 1-6 and then a differently named track and is one of this weird, wild and experimental albums that everyone seems to hate…. except ME!

PART ONE begins with a strange echoed guitar and ambient background and then incorporates a percussive background and secondary guitar embellishments. It remains a bit slow tempoed

PART TWO steps it up and creates an alternative metal madness

PART THREE is imperceptible from pART tWO and continues the same chordage.

PART FOUR continues the momentum of pART tHREE and then changes up the alternative metal riffage a bit. Nothing outstandingly original but it rocks…and has staccato action

PART FIVE turns into a heavier but similar riff and stays that way
PART SIX changes into a stranger heavy riff with a lead guitar and rhythm guitar together but then creates an even heavier and more off-kilter time sig and then breaks into a more normal alt metal riffage but then unexpectedly changes into a soft passage of ambience with a clean guitar riff that echoes slightly. This continues until the end

THE PENDULUM swings toward the mellow side. A slightly classical acoustic guitar riff emerges after a bit of silence with a touch of background ambience. It pretty much stays this way but is actually quite a nice pleasant guitar sequence. It is mellow but has an ambient soul to it. Love this one

Overall this one has great moments but lots of just ho hum monotony. A good but non-essential whole
