"Purity: The Darwinian Paradox" is the debut full-length studio album by UK death/thrash metal act Dãm. The album was released through Candlelight Records in May 2005.

The music on the album is death/thrash metal with an unmistakable British charm, which means that there are hints toward artists like Cancer and early nineties Carcass. The link to the latter mentioned is further strengthened by the fact that Dãm have opted to record a cover version of "Forensic Clinicism / The Sanguine Article" (a great version I might add). When that is said it´s only hints and Dãm are not a tribute/clone band by any means. The vocals on the album are raw and sneering. A higher pitched growling type vocal style. I like how aggressive the vocalist sounds. There a few clean vocals on the album too, but they are very few. The band succesfully vary pace and rythm style and there are a couple of pretty killer riffs here and there too. The songwriting could have been slightly more memorable (I don´t remember many of the tracks after finishing the album) but it´s an album that is very enjoyable while it plays.

The musicianship is strong on the album and it features a pretty powerful sound production too, so "Purity: The Darwinian Paradox" is definitely an album that comes across as professional sounding.

While I could have wished that the songs had left a more lasting impression on me, "Purity: The Darwinian Paradox" is still a strong death/thrash metal album and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
