Last Supper is a demo by Morbid, a band I discovered because someone told me that they were fronted by Dead (R.I.P.), who was better known for his time in the black metal band Mayhem, and for his infamous suicide. When I found out that I could get my hands on Last Supper I didn’t hesitate but I was letting myself in for a disappointment, since Dead isn’t on these four tracks.

Well since I had the tracks I thought I may as well listen to them anyway. So it turns out it isn’t actually that bad but overall I find these tracks to be easy to forget. Vocalist John is much more of a thrash vocalist than Dead, whose voice was what really gave Morbid their death/thrash metal sound. He’s not bad, but when he does scream it’s nothing special.

What gets me at once is that the bass guitar is actually drowning out the rhythm guitars right from the word go. I’m not really opposed to bass heavy music, but I want to hear the riffs more, not the bass line. The lead guitarist is obviously quite talented though because the lead work that we get on Last Supper is spectacular. The drums however are nothing worth noting. Overall the recording quality is good enough for a demo release. I didn’t really expect more that what it is on that front.

Of the three songs the best is the third, Terror!. Sickness of Humanity, the opener, is close but it’s Beyond the Last Midnight that let’s them down, because the vocals are not up to the standard of the other two songs (the fourth track is an instrumental). Morbid’s December Moon demo that did have Dead on vocals has the better vocals and overall the better songs and better sound.

Now on a final note, the fourth song on this demo is the Bond theme tune, which while to me it doesn’t sound that alike is actually pretty good listening because you don’t have to listen to John singing.

So in summary there’s no point getting this if you’re looking for music by Dead, but I must say, Terror! is well worth having even if you don’t care about the rest of this demo. But overall, nothing special.
