With all the cool bands that are there, it is impossible to keep up with all of them, and Lamb of God is one of the bands that I, admittedly, have neglected. I saw them live warming up for Metallica, and they totally kicked ass, so I wen out and bought a random Lamb of God album.

That album was "Ashes of the Wake" - which of course contains the hit song "Laid to Rest", immortalized as the main sound track of Sam Dunn's "Headbanger's Journey". While this album does not capture the energy that I experienced live, it is doubtlessly a very good album.

The style is modern semi-technical thrash metal with lots of groove and aggression, but Lamb of God also draw on more traditional thrash metal, and the Slayer-influences are just as present as the Pantera-influences are. In addition, Lamb of God also display metalcore tendencies in that they use very harsh, but not growled, vocals and there are plenty of breakdowns as well.

This is a fine modern thrash metal album, and I can totally understand, on the basis of "Ashes of the Wake" why Lamb of God have become as popular as they are.

It´s very little of their music I enjoy on a personal level, but you gotta give it to them. They create quality music.
