I've this Ep in "True King Of Norway" compilation and in my opinion Emperor have created a good music in this Ep. True and pure Black Metal, not for generalist metallers or for who think that Black Metal is not a musical genre but only pure noise!

In my opinion Emperor have the best result in the more calm parts, which manage to be very evocative. In the more aggressive parts they can't be very persuasive.

The production is good (in "True King Of Norway" this Ep is remastered) and sure the band plays with good technique a type of Black Metal that is also Symphonic or that would be to differentiate itself from other bands. But the guitar sound is not good in the more aggressive parts because too close to distorted organ.

In definitive "As The Shadows Rise" is a good example of adult Black Metal from the origin of adult Black Metal.
