AEOLIA predates TALL POPPY SYNDROME, Leprous' first "official" album. This album, sometimes referred to as a "demo", is considered a much weaker effort than TALL POPPY SYNDROME by some listeners. Apparently, the band even declined to release it at the time it was recorded. I don't understand all the criticism; I personally love this album.

Some reviewers suggest that AEOLIA is too unfocused and too varied. In my opinion, that quality is one of the greatest virtues of the album. In contrast I found the COAL album, the latest one I've listened to, repetitive. My favorite tracks here are probably "Disclosure" and "Eye of the Storm", but all of the tracks are good. The great thing about Leprous is their individuality. They combine elements in a way that is unique among bands at the more extreme end of the metal spectrum. Open-minded metal fans - I think if you use this site to find new music, like I do, you qualify as open minded - could find a lot to enjoy on AEOLIA.
