siLLy puPPy A random buy at the music store simply because of the imagery the artwork evokes of old school death metal. SCROTOCTOMY is a slam brutal death metal band from Monterrey, Nuevo León, México and is representative of a whole parade of Latin American extreme metal bands in recent history who have a fascination with the early 90s death metal era with a slight grindcore crossover from early Carcass as evidenced by the scientifically grotesque title tracks.

FROM TORTURE TO PUTREFACTION is the first release from SCROTOCTOMY in the form of an EP. The songs are the same as the demo released the prior year. I find the music on here to be a tad generic and extremely retro in quality but there is a veritable enthusiasm for groups like this who missed the first wave of death metal and are making up for lost time.

What is lost here in actual creative delivery is partially made up for in the passion for the genre. I find this band to have some serious potential and hope they can find their own sound on future releases but for now expect a short but sweet 11:45 running time that focuses on a breakdown style of death metal with palm muted riffs that started way back with bands like Suffocation. This is an average release but one that shows a strong glimpse of possibilities.
