Backyard Babies is a Swedish Rock'n Roll band, formed in the city of Nässjö in 1987, originally comprising singer Tobbe, guitarist Dregen, bassist Johan Blomqvist and drummer Peder Carlsson. After recording a rough demo and playing a few local live dates, in 1989 the group dismissed Tobbe and replaced him with singer Nicke Borg; two more demos followed, as did a national tour, and in 1991 the Backyard Babies launched their first official release, the EP Something to Swallow. Signing with the Swedish Megarock label in 1993, the following year the quartet issued their first full-length effort, Diesel & Power, before going on hiatus to allow Dregen the chance to work with his other band, The Hellacopters. The Backyard Babies reunited in 1997 for the album Total 13 and later released Making Enemies is Good (2001) and Stockholm Syndrome (2003). In 2006, The Hellacopters singer Nicke Andersson helped produce their read more...

BACKYARD BABIES Stockholm Syndrome

Bomb Brigade
Although diehards will argue that the band's earliest efforts are their best,I find Stockholm Syndrome to be The Backyard Babies quintessential peak.Song after song of dirty excellence, brought to you directly from the gutters of Sweden.Nick Borge,Dregen, and the rest of the boys serve up a platter of sleaze with intolerance to their less defined underground roots, yet with their gutter rock sensibilities firmly intact.Take, for example, the in your face explosion of nitro glycerine that is the ONE SOUND;a somewhat experimental composition with which the band reaffirms its authority of arena rock. The song's power cannot and will not be denied.EARN THE CROWN,A SONG FOR THE OUTCAST,and PIGS FOR SWINE all maintain the group's mastery of the medium, yet establish a more groove-oriented,almost melody-driven,formula then the band had previously employed(albeit perhaps on their brilliant MAKING ENEMIES IS GOOD disc). How utterly appropriate that Backyard Babies conclude this disc with the aptly named SHUT THE FUCK UP(a song title which was soon after to be borrowed by Nikki Sixx and cohorts for their ode to European gutter rock,THE BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION).Run out, beg, steal, borrow, overthrow your government, and do whatever else it takes to make this album a part your sleaze rock collection!
