Genre: metallic noisecore

The cover artwork (which is really brilliant, I think) seems to indicate, the music in this album is of a more artistic and experimental kind. Indeed, The Chariot take an experimental approach on this their fifth album.

Drawing on post-hardcore and noise rock, their primary area of experimentation is noise and dissonance, but this is inserted into well-defined riffs, some of which are sludge and some of which are more metallic, and combined with both solid beats and more abstract odd-metered drum figures. The album comes across very compact, with many of the songs being relatively short, but intense, and a number of tracks being melodic and artistic intermezzos. The vocals are harshly yelled and screamed - I do not know if they qualify as screamo, but they suit the intense and chaotic music considerably well.

Although this is definitely interesting music with an artistic touch, at the end of the day, it is simply not the sort of music that appeals to me and, despite the experimentation with noise, it ends up sounding monotonous to my ears, leaving me cold. That is, of course, just a matter of my own musical taste (or lack thereof). Objectively, I appreciate the direction that The Chariot take their music in and, even I can hear that "One Wing" is an artistic success.

So, if you like noise rock and post-hardcore music which is intense and compact, yet abstract and challenging, then check out The Chariot's latest effort.
