MERCILESS DEATH EVIL IN THE NIGHT reviews

Stephen
This young Californian thrasher emerged from level zero where it all started from singer Andy Torres' home computer until this debut, "Evil In The Night", attracted Heavy Artillery records and veteran sleeve designer Ed Repka to contribute his drawing. The style is totally a tribute to the Bay Area, the rhythm, the guitars, the vocal style, it really takes us back to the glorious era where bands like Slayer, Metallica, and Exodus started their career.

"Slaughter Lord", a fast-paced tempo with some brutal riffs makes a wonderful opener. Come up next, "Deadly Assault", a similar aggressive pattern with the former but this time, I found this to be decent. "Command Death" and "Burn In Hell" are also not that different and this is the weakness of the album I spotted, a lack of variety. However, some songs are worth a big praise such as "Exumer" with an outstanding solos delivery and "The Final Slaughter" which I claimed as their best track here.

The good thing of this album is that the style is very familiar, especially for hardcore fans of old-school thrash and if you don't really care about originality and complexity, Merciless Death offered many great headbanging tunes and the riffs are smokin' hot. The downside is aside from the variation problem, Torres' vocal isn't really my fave, and the whole album is way too short. Other than that, I think "Evil In The Night" is pretty good.
