Genre: raw black metal

Bahimiron's "Rebel Hymns of Left-Handed Terror" probably belongs to the category of releases that fall under the rubric of pure filth.

The music is simple, intense and chaotic, while the production is lo-fi and sloppy - you could even call it underproduction (not quite "Reek of Putrefaction"-quality, but almost). No doubt that these features are intended and a deliberate part of the band's sonic aesthetic. And underproduction is also an integral part of raw black metal in general.

While construing a black metal musical identity, this album also draws a lot on primitive death metal and even a bit of grindcore. There is a lot of one-string tremolo picking, and a lot of the figures appear to incorporate chromatic note jump in one way or another, while the guitar solos often consist of whammy bar insanity in the nth degree.

As you can imagine, this is very intense and chaotic stuff, and with the underproduction on top of that, Bahirimon's music is not for everyone, and if you ar not a raw black metal aficionado, then the album might be very difficult to listen to. I dig the chaotic and intense nature of the music, but the lo-fi production does not sit well with me, I must admit. I simply do not understand that aspect of the aesthetics of raw black metal yet.

Fans of intense and expressive dark chaotic music with a good portion of noise will probably find this release a very interesting listen. I found it an interesting listen too, albeit a very challenging one.

Recommended to fans of raw metal filth.
