An unholy alliance was forged between two of the most evil French bands on the face of this planet when the decision to release this split was made which features Temple of Baal and Ritualization.

While the Temple of Baal part is more black metal oriented Ritualization deliver old school brutal death metal along the lines of Suffocation, but slightly less technical and higher velocities of blastbeats, and with a few more nods towards black metal. Each song takes you through a flurry of old school death metal riffing and, true to the genre, Ritualization incorporates a whole lot of changes and sections into their songs, while the vocals are take the form of deep guttural growls.

The production is not too polished and has a hint of the good old death metal sound of the 90s; yet, it is quite well defined and really allows the listener to hear how skilled musicians the Ritualization guys are. All three songs (two of their own and a Mortem cover) are extremely well performed.

I find myself actually enjoying the Ritualization part a whole lot, and I would expect that fans of old school brutal death metal will find it just as enjoyable as I do.
