"The New Hell" is the fifth full-length studio album by Finnish thrash metal act National Napalm Syndicate. The album was released through Iron Shield Records in April 2022. It´s the successor to "Time Is the Fire" from May 2018. There has been one lineup change since "Time Is the Fire" as lead vocalist Ilkka "Ile" Järvenpää has left and has been replaced by Vesa Mänty.

Mänty is a raw shouting thrash metal vocalist with a strong voice who is a good replacement for Järvenpää, but he lacks the snarling uniqueness of his predecessor. Stylistically National Napalm Syndicate continue the heavier, faster-paced, and more aggressive thrash metal style of "Time Is the Fire" compared to the more melodic inclined thrash/heavy metal of "Resurrection of the Wicked" (2006) and "Devolution of Species" (2009) and "The New Hell" is a pretty hard hitting and effective thrash metal release, although it certainly has its melodic moments too (this is not Slayer style thrash metal). Contemporary Testament is a valid reference. Quality wise National Napalm Syndicate are also up there although they don´t quite reach the legendary Americans. This is not far from it though, and I´d strongly recommend Testament fans to check this out.

I´m not surprised that "The New Hell" is such a high quality release, because that was also the case with "Time Is the Fire" and "The New Hell" delivers many of the same great things that the predecessor did. High level musicianship, powerful, professional, and detailed sound production values, and above all powerful and effective songwriting. National Napalm Syndicate have done it again and a 3.5 - 4 star (75%) rating is deserved.
