"Better to Die on Your Feet Than Live on Your Knees" is the debut full-length studio album by US grindcore act Liberteer. The album was released through Relapse Records in January 2012. Liberteer is a one-man project featuring Matthew Widener (Cretin, Exhumed, The County Medical Examiners).

The music on the album is grindcore of the predominantly hardcore punk influenced variant. The vocals are raw, aggressive and shouting but fully intelligible (unfortunately also a bit one-dimensional). In addition to the fast blasting and hardcore punk riffing, "Better to Die on Your Feet Than Live on Your Knees" features something as unusual for a grindcore album as orchestration. Programmed if my ears don´t deceive me, but very well sounding. The more "regular" grindcore part of the sound is well executed and pretty well written but it´s definitely the orchestrated parts that set "Better to Die on Your Feet Than Live on Your Knees" apart from most other grindcore releases out there.

"Better to Die on Your Feet Than Live on Your Knees" certainly comes off as a high quality grindcore release with a relatively unique sound, but to really make an impact I think the more standard grindcore elements on the album need to be a bit more memorable. Still a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
