UMUR "True Carnage" is the 5th full-length studio album by US, Florida based death metal act Six Feet Under. The album was released through Metal Blade Records in August 2001. Less than a year after the release of the predecessor "Graveyard Classics" from October 2000. The predecessor was a covers album though, and on "True Carnage", Six Feet Under are back to performing original material again.

Stylistically there are only few surprises if you´re familiar with the simple old school death metal style of their preceding releases. The death metal male/female duet between Chris Barnes and Karyn Crisis on "Sick and Twisted" and the guest rap appearance by Ice-T on "One Bullet Left" are probably the biggest surprises, but I´d mention the groove "tribal" rhythms and vocal patterns on "The Murderers" as a bit unconventional for Six Feet Under too. But that´s about it...the rest is pretty standard quality old school death metal, with only a few standout tracks, and a couple of sub par tracks too ("Snakes" come to mind immediately). It´s definitely not Six Feet Under at their most inspired, and Chris Barnes often sound a bit tired and his vocals distorted a bit too much for comfort.

The sound production is decent, but ultimately a bit too weak to help the material shine. Especially the guitars lack a bit of punch, and they are placed a bit too low in the mix. So while "True Carnage" isn´t a bad quality album, it´s not a really great album either. For that both the performances and the material aren´t inspired enough. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
