UMUR "Infatuation With Malevolence" is the 2nd demo release by US death metal act Dying Fetus. The demo was self-released in May 1994 on cassette tape. "Infatuation With Malevolence" features 5 tracks. The tracks are included on the "Infatuation With Malevolence (1995)" Compilation along with 5 tracks from the "Bathe in Entrails (1993)" demo.

The music on the demo is brutal groove oriented death metal. The vocals alternate between deep aggressive growling and unintelligible processed growling. As such not much different from the music on the "Bathe in Entrails (1993)" demo. "Infatuation With Malevolence" however features an even more professional sounding production and more refined song writing than the first demo did. This is incredibly heavy and brutal death metal but after a couple of tracks it does become slightly one-dimensional and the tracks aren´t necessarilly that easy to tell apart. In the right doses the music is still very impressive and it´s hard not to bang your head hard and long to this.

"Infatuation With Malevolence" is a step up from "Bathe in Entrails (1993)" (which is also a great demo) and it´s no surprise to me that Dying Fetus got signed as a result of the high quality of this demo and it´s not a surprise either that Wild Rags Records opted to re-release the material from the demo on the "Infatuation With Malevolence (1995)" Compilation. Material of this high quality should be made available to more people than the few lucky buyers of the demo cassette tape. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is fully deserved.
