THOLUS are a progressive death metal band from the United States.Initially founded by composer Mike Johnson in 2004,Mike was unable to complete the project and in the end original member Dave Murray(ESTRADASPHERE,DESERTS OF TRAUN,SCULPTURED)completed the project.
Murray(producer,drummer,vocalist,throat singer)rounded out the THOLUS line-up with top-notch musical talent such as guitarists Wally Scharold and Rob Pumpelley(from MIRTHKON and FLYING LUTTENBACHERS),Aaron Ortiz(lead vocals) and Sami Di(bass).
In 2007 THOLUS released their debut album,the science fiction themed "Constant",which featured guest appearances by lead guitarist Kevin Kmetz(ESTRADASPHERE,GOD OF SHAMISEN),lead fretless bassist Dan Robbins(CEDAR WALTON,RED HOLLOWAY,DEEPAK RAM)and auxillary bass harmonies by John MacMurphy.
THOLUS' music exhibits the heaviness of bands like DEATH,GOREGUTS and NECROPHAGIST while combining that with the finesse and complexity of bands like CYNIC and ATHEIST.
