Equinox is a progressive metal band from Minnesota, United States. The band was formed in January of 1989, when keyboardist/vocalist, Jamison Masters was introduced to drummer Eric Althaus through a mutual acquaintance. The two played together in a band called Spirits for the next few months. In may of 1989, the guitar and bass players of ‘Spirits’ decided to go their separate ways, leaving Jamison and Eric to continue their mutual musical goals. In June of 1989, Eric introduced Jamison to guitarist Lonnie Melland. Eric had played with Lonnie in a funk fusion band, ‘Renaissance 13’, just prior to joining forces with Jamison months earlier.
