After the perfection of DEMIGOD I find it unlikely they will ever achieve a more magnanimous accomplishment of brutal death metal, so i'm glad that they didn't try to top it with THE APOSTASY. This album is still extreme brutal death metal, but on this album BEHEMOTH added piano and a horn section consisiting of trumpet, trombone and French horn. This gives a somewhat symphonic background to some of the tracks. There is also occasional Eastern chanting which connects the sound to the cover art of the Hindu goddess Kali.

Although the blackened death metal sound of BEHEMOTH hasn't deviated significantly from previous releases, the new use of the other instruments tweeks the songs in a slightly slower direction and Inferno's drumming seems less mechanical and more varied. I like this release slightly less than the previous album but THE APOSTASY is still a strong and satisfying death metal album from beginning to end and the experimentation really works without sounding awkward.
Warthur
Ever since their transformation from a patchy black metal band into an intriguing black-about-the-edges death metal band, Behemoth have become one of the most consistent forces in metal. Whilst The Apostasy didn't blow me away to the same extent as some of their other albums, it's still a tremendously enjoyable (not to mention deliciously evil) death metal album which sees the band finding endless new ways to keep their same old themes fresh and new. It might not break that much in the way of new ground for the band, but if you've heard and enjoyed the albums leading up to it you'll be pleased to know they've lost none of their diabolic spark.
arcane-beautiful
My favorite Behemoth album (well so far). I don't know what it is about this album, but it all just seems to come into place. The dark textures of the song, the intensity and the anger presented, and the concept (basically it's about accepting older traditional values rather than the monotheistic dogmas of todays religious climate).

It's also odd, their is alot more songs than their last album, but it's also shorter, which again proves their is no correlation between quality and quantity.

A far step from their previous few albums, and a lot more experimentation, it really payed off for the crazy Poles.

I also love the artwork, for Kali is one of my favorite deities. And the photography is amazing, as usual.

1. Rome 64 C.E. - Great atmosphere and build up. Very powerful, and as programmatic music, it really is successful. 10/10

2. Slaying The Prophets Ov Isa - Perfect example of a Behemoth song, and would be perfect for trying to get anyone into the band. One of their best songs in my opinion. Such power, with a great chorus and some amazing lyrics. 10/10

3. Prometherion - Quite frantic & very evil. 10/10

4. At The Left Hand Ov God - Very doomy and powerful. The intro is surprisingly beautiful. The lyrics are amazing. 10/10

5. Kriegsphilosophie - Great riffs and some interesting lyrics. 9/10

6. Be Without Fear - Great chorus. Quite contemporary for Behemoth. 10/10

7. Arcana Hertidae - Amazing intro. Great arrangement and orchestration. 10/10

8. Libertheme - Quite groovy. Great vocals and some impressive instrumental work. 9/10

9. Inner Sanctum - Warrel's vocals are amazing. Great lyrics. A very dark and even more evil than I thought these guys could conjure up. 10/10

10. Pazuzu - Great arrangement. Powerfull and epic. 10/10

11. Christgrinding Avenue - What an ender. Great hooks and some impressive arrangements. 10/10

CONCLUSION: In my opinion, the ultimate Behemoth album. I need to here a lot more of their work though.
