UMUR "Senseless Extermination" is an EP release by Finnish thrash metal act Wengele (at this point still operating under their original Mengele monicker). The EP was released through Bad Vugum in early 1989. I´m not 100% sure about the chronology of the early Mengele releases, but as far as I understand "Senseless Extermination" bridges the gap between the band´s 1988 "Kuusamon" demo and their 1989 "Abominable Thoughts" demo.

Wengele formed in 1987 under the Mengele monicker, but after releasing two demos and one EP under the Mengele monicker the band opted to change their name to Insomnia, to escape accusations that they had nazi sympathies. Insomnia released one 1990 eponymously titled demo and then folded. In 2002 the band reunited under the Wengele monicker.

Stylistically the three tracks on the 9:07 minutes long EP is brutal and aggressive thrash metal in the vein of 1986 Slayer and Dark Angel. That´s the area of the thrash metal genre that Mengele inhabit. It´s fast-paced, furiously intense, and aggressive to the max. Mengele are a very well playing act, and they hand out one convincing leason in sonic violence here. This is the sort of release which will leave you breathless because of its punishing nature. Fans of this type of thrash metal, who haven´t listened to this yet, are strongly adviced to seek it out. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
