I first came across these Canadians in 2003 when Century Media sent me ‘None So Live’ to review and it just blew me away. Since then I have kept track of what the band has been doing and have managed to get pretty much all of their albums, so when I saw that a double CD ‘Best Of’ was being released I knew I was in for a treat. What we have here is a great way of discovering the band’s music, with the two discs having more than two hours of music.

The first disc is subtitled ‘16 Stabwounds’ and kicks off with three new exclusive songs from last year before going through the band’s history since they signed to CM in 1998 so there are cuts from ‘The Unspoken King’ (2008), ‘Once Was Not’ (2005), ‘And Then You’ll Beg’ (2000) and ‘Whisper Supremacy’ (1998). The second disc is subtitled ‘Bury The Past Alive’ and contains more obscure and rarer material songs from “None So Vile” (1996) and ‘Blasphemy Made Flesh’ (1994) before showcasing live material from different lin-ups and periods. The last four songs are a raw yet obviously effective 4-song rehearsal recording from 1998, which originally got the band signed to the label.

I was sent this as a download to review so I haven’t seen the physical copy but apparently it comes with extensive sleeve notes, and given what I can see in terms of press information and the brilliant cover artwork I believe it. This is a great introduction to the best Death Metal band ever to come out of Canada, and if you like the genre and/or the band then this is absolutely essential from first to last as no-one does it quite like these guys – 32 songs of brilliant raw aggression. www.centurymedia.com
