PIKE 190 - 17 DAYS TIL HALLOWEEN: 1079 is the 89th album released by BUCKETHEAD in 2015 and the 15th installment in the countdown to HALLOWEEN. Another dark ambient spooky soundtrack for the holiday performed exclusively by BUCKETHEAD. This one clocks in 15 seconds over the half hour mark and has 5 tracks all titled “1079.” I have no clue what the number represents if anything. My quick internet search reveals no revelations and actually i don’t really care as this music is so abstract that i just assume the title is as arbitrary. All tracks run together on this one.

“Part 1” begins with squeals and sounds like one of those whale song type pitches. There is kind of an underwater feel to it with notes sliding and reaching high pitches and then falling. Not sure but i think i hear a guitar muffled under it all for a while as it fades in and out. There is also some cymbals that create some intermittent percussion. Not exactly musical but there is a steady rhythm underneath the chaotic squeals and trumpeting din.

As we segue into “Part 2” it continues the same mood of alternating sporadic percussive explosions and weird synthesized noises that reverberate and the same cymbal action. Nothing new really but slightly paced differently. This is starting to sound a little monotonous and i’m not diggin’ it like the string of inventive horror soundtracks before this. This one isn’t really scary at all just weird but not in an interesting way.

Unfortunately this one never goes anywhere. It just continues the same pitches, bombastic percussive explosions and reverbs, shakers etc. I’m really not diggin’ this one in the least. This is too simplistic to be interesting in an active way and way too irritating to be good background music. I guess this could provide as music to irritate someone. I very rarely find music that irritates me but this one does. A sonic form of haunting i suppose.
