Wrath is the 5th full-length studio album by American thrash/ groove metal act Lamb of God. The album was released in February 2009 by Epic Records. The original album contains 11 tracks but there´s a digipack version available with two bonus tracks. The Japanese version features 3 bonus tracks.

The music on the album is thrash/ groove metal with metalcore elements. All songs are well written and the musicianship is excellent ( especially drummer Chris Adler stands out as being particularly skilled). The main influences are Pantera and mid-nineties Testament. Especially Randy Blythe´s deeper almost growling vocals remind me of Chuck Billy´s ( Testament) vocal style. He screams a lot too though and that´s where the metalcore element comes in. While the quality of the material on Wrath is certainly high, I can´t say that I detect much development in the band´s sound since Sacrament (2006). So if you enjoyed that album, I´m pretty sure you´ll enjoy Wrath too. Personally I think the songs generally sound a bit formulaic. Songs like the opening We Die Alone and the closing track Reclamation, which are both a bit different than the rest of the tracks, are welcome variations.

The production is powerful and suits the music well.

Wrath is another quality release by Lamb of God but while I hear many good qualities in the band´s music I still don´t think the word excellent comes to mind so a 3.5 star rating is deserved.
