Despite having the silliest album art of any Amon Amarth album ("Come and get me, globe!"), Versus the World actually impressed me a lot. The band had clearly come along way from their debut at this point - they're still a Viking-themed melodic death metal band here, but there's also points where they sneak in a few carefully-judged motifs and approaches from power metal, creating an interesting blend which I find a lot more interesting than mainline power metal and seems to be a significant step up from their debut. This convinces me that I will be exploring more of their discography in the future.
