"The Oculus" is the 2nd full-length studio album by Swedish death/ metalcore/ post-hardcore act Inevitable End. The album was released in May 2011 by Relapse Records.

The music on the album is a combination of many genres and genre elements. The vocals definitely have a "core" quality and sound to them. They are mostly of the screaming and shouting varity but there are some deeper death grunts in the music too. The music is generally very technical and dissonant chords, time-signature changes and challenging song-structures are prominant features in the band´s sound. When the band are most brutal they are on the technical deathcore side of things but they also have a definite post-hardcore edge to their music and sometimes I´m heavily reminded of an act like Converge. The professional and powerful production gives the music the right punch and sound.

I´m not sure I hear anything on "The Oculus" that I haven´t already heard elsewhere, but there´s no denying that the music is very well written, produced and performed. I´d say a 3.5 star rating is deserved.
