"Slaughterhouse" is the debut full-length studio album by Australian, Canberra based grindcore act Abdominal Eruption. The album was self-released in 2008 and is available for free download. Abdominal Eruption is a one-man act. I haven´t been able to find the name of the guy, but I managed to find a short note he had written about the release. Apparently a lot of the material was written and recorded when he was around 14/15 years of age. He couldn´t find anyone to play with, who shared his interest in music and decided for a DIY approach.

While not all 14/15 year old boys are complete amateurs, "Slaughterhouse" is a release that reeks of amateurism. Stylistically the 20 tracks can somewhat be tagged experimental grindcore/goregrind, but that´s actually only partially true. A lot of the time we´re just treated to short soundbits and what sounds like a very young boy playing clean electric guitar pieces through a recorder that distorts his efforts in quite an unpleasant fashion. When there is an occasional blasting grindcore section it´s usually very noisy and distorted beyond belief. Top it off with completely unintelligible gurgling growls and that´s a pretty valid description of the music in my opinion.

This is all in all a very amateurish release, and while I can understand a young guy finding it interesting to record his ideas and even demo them, I don´t think it was a particularly good idea to release them as tracks in this form. Yeah I get the idea that this is a "fun" project (songtitles like "Stabbed And Gutted With An Infected Razor Blade", "Ohh Girl... You Know I'm Going To Kill You? That's Why We Can't Be Together", and "Torture was like so yesterday, Murder is like all the fuzz now" did crack a smile), but there is still a listener in the other end that you have to cater for just the slightest bit, which doesn´t seem to be the case here, and I doubt very many people will find this an enjoyable listen. If just a couple of the soundbits had been developed into "real" tracks, I might have found this just the slightest bit interesting. As it is now a 0.5 star (10%) rating is warranted.
