"Scriptures of the Dead" is an EP release by Belgian death metal act Aborted. The EP was released through Century Media Records in March 2014 and works as an appetizer release for the band´s 8th full-length studio album "The Necrotic Manifesto" which was released in April 2014.

"Scriptures of the Dead" features 2 tracks and a full playing time of 6:03 minutes. The first track is the title track from "The Necrotic Manifesto" and it´s a typical technically well played brutal death metal track with strong early 90s Carcass leanings like we´re used to from Aborted. They can write material like this with their left hand while they are sleeping and "Necrotic Manifesto" is neither better nor worse than most of their other material. A good quality death metal track done the Aborted way.

The second track on the EP is a cover of "Arise" by Sepultura. The already fast and aggressive death/thrash track is given a more straight death metal treatment by Aborted, but otherwise it´s relatively true to the original. It´s a decent interpretation, but nothing that makes my blood boil. All in all "Scriptures of the Dead" is a nice little appetizer to "The Necrotic Manifesto", but it´s not a release you can´t live without. A 3 star (60%) rating is deserved.
