"Sad Plight of Lucifer" is the eighth full-length studio album by Danish death/thrash/groove metal act Konkhra. The album was released through Hammerheart Records in November 2024. It´s the successor to "Alpha and the Omega" from October 2019. There have been no lineup changes and Konkhra have now had a steady lineup since 2015, when guitarist Kim Mathiesen re-joined the group.

Stylistically Konkhra more or less continue the death metal style of "Alpha and the Omega". While Konkhra are one of the seminal old school death metal acts out of Denmark and they still have old school death metal taits in their music, they also incorporate more contemporary thrash/groove metal elements to their sound (Machine Head haven´t lived in vain). So this is overall a contemporary take on playing death metal rather than a retro sounding release. But that was also the case on "Alpha and the Omega", so no surprises there. Konkhra are a well playing unit and lead vocalist/guitarist Anders Lundemark have a brutal and aggressive growling/shouting vocal style.

"Sad Plight of Lucifer" features a well sounding production. It´s heavy, sharp, and powerful sounding, and with enough grit to not sound too polished. Upon conclusion it´s nice to hear that "Alpha and the Omega" wasn´t a one off in terms of Konkhra finding their way back to releasing powerful and memorable material again. The return of some of the early 90s members to the lineup seem to have brought back some authenticity and a much needed reality check for main composer/frontman/guitarist Anders Lundemark. "Sad Plight of Lucifer" is a strong release in Konkhra´s discography and an overall a high quality release and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
