ULVER — Lyckantropen Themes (review)

Warthur
With albums such as Perdition City and Teachings In Silence already reminiscent of an ice cool post-rock interpretation of the Blade Runner soundtrack, it was only a matter of time before Ulver moved on from recording soundtracks to imaginary films to soundtracks to real ones. Lyckantropen Themes is the brief soundtrack to a film 8 minutes shorter than this album is, and sees Ulver once again bringing forth a melancholy, spooky, almost noirish electronic sound. Lacking any abrasive audio samples or dialogue snippets - in keeping with its role as background music for a film - this is one of the better fully-instrumental albums of Ulver's non- metal career.
