"Lex Talionis" is an EP release by Finnish thrash metal act National Napalm Syndicate. The EP was released through Violent Journey Records in June 2014. It bridges the gab between the band´s third- and fourth full-length studio albums "Devolution of Species" (2009) and "Time Is the Fire" (2018).

The EP features 5 tracks and a total playing time of 12:26 minutes. Original National Napalm Syndicate vocalist Aku Raaska has temporarily returned to the fold and he performs on four out of the five tracks on the EP while present lead vocalist Ilkka Järvenpää performs on one track. Järvenpää was not permanently out of the band though, as he would subsequently perform vocals on "Time Is the Fire".

"The Church of the Rat" and "Planet Satan" are new original compositions. The former is the most fast-paced and aggressive thrasher the band have released since their 2002 comeback, while the latter is more in line with the melodic thrash/heavy metal style of their contemporary studio albums. The two next tracks are covers of Finnish hardcore punk artists Vivisektio and KTMK. So they are short aggressive hardcore/crossover tracks. They are decent but nothing out of the ordinary. The last track is a 1988 demo cover of Nuclear Assault which the band have titled "My Pudasjärvi". It´s a 30 seconds long song, so it´s pretty much over before you notice it.

While "Lex Talionis" arguably isn´t as interesting or as accomplished as the band´s contemporary studio albums, it´s still a decent stop-gab release from National Napalm Syndicate, showing the flag in the long recording break between "Devolution of Species" (2009) and "Time Is the Fire" (2018). A 2.5 - 3 star (55%) rating is warranted.
