This gloriously messy EP is one of a number of releases from the early 1980s which would in future become foundational documents for black metal - and there's certainly something groundbreaking about the combination of snarling vocals, growling guitars and fast quasi-blast beats on the drums - but this is one of those cases where a lousy production job, far from lending a cold, "kvlt" aesthetic to proceedings, simply makes the album a pain to listen to. It's also hard to deny that the band's compositional chops had a long way to go at this point. Interesting if you want to listen to Sodom fumble their way towards their more successful thrash direction or are particularly interested in the history of black metal, but otherwise skippable.
