"In Memory of Mankind" is the debut full-length studio album by German death metal act Dead Eyed Sleeper. The album was released through Musicaz Records in July 2007. Dead Eyed Sleeper formed in 1994 under the Legacy monicker, and released two full-length studio albums, one EP, and one demo under that monicker before changing their name to Dead Eyed Sleeper in 2007. So while "In Memory of Mankind" is the debut album by Dead Eyed Sleeper, the nucleus of the band had been active on the German death metal scene for many years prior to that.

If you´re familiar with the thrash infused death metal style of Legacy, the material on "In Memory of Mankind" won´t be a surprise to you. Dead Eyed Sleeper have become tighter over the years, but other than that the music style is overall very similar to the style they played on the Legacy releases (maybe slightly more adventurous and even a little bit more melodic at times). The riffs and the drive of the drums (when they don´t play blast beats), are founded in aggressive and brutal thrash metal, but everything else on the album is in death metal territory, and especially the brutal growling vocals point in that direction. For all the thrash metal elements found on "In Memory of Mankind" I would never call it anything but a death metal release.

Legacy´s releases always had an amaturish element to them which was primarily because of their sub par sound productions, and while "In Memory of Mankind" is a better sounding release to anything Legacy ever put out, I still think the sound production is a bit lacking. There´s a clicky sounding quality to the bass, which isn´t that pleasant sounding, and there are other little details, which aren´t that great sounding either. When that is said "In Memory of Mankind" is still a listenable album, and it sounds alright most of the time. A 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is warranted.
