For the Loveless Lonely Nights is an EP release by Danish doom/ death metal act Saturnus. It´s the band´s second release. The EP was released in October 1998 by Euphonious Records.

The EP contains 6 tracks and has a total playing time of 35:57 minutes. The first 3 tracks are new studio recordings. The next two were recorded live at the Roskilde Festival in June 1997. The closing track Consecration is a studio recording. The music on the EP is atmospheric and melancholic doom/ death metal. The vocals vary between talking/ reciting and deep growling. Mostly the former style actually. References to a band like My Dying Bride are pretty obvious, which is only further enhanced by the addition of violin in the second song on the EP For Your Demons. While the studio recordings ( except Consecration which is a kind of sound collage/ experiment and fail to captivate me) are pretty good but tends to drag a bit during the recital sections, it´s the two live tracks that really impress. Christ Goodbye, which is taken from the debut album Paradise Belongs to You (1996), is not only really well played but also an intense composition. The sound production on the two live tracks is professional and very well sounding.

For the Loveless Lonely Nights is a good doom/ death metal release. It´s not outstanding or particularly original but it´s solid. I could do with a bit less recital though and more of those powerful brutal growls. 3 stars are well deserved though.
