Anaal Nathrakh's work is often described as blackened grindcore, but albums such as Eschaton reveal just how thin the distinction between raw, old school black metal and grindcore really is. The band display a knack for deploying production values and symphonic flourishes without once allowing their brutal assault on the senses to be diluted. Carefully chosen guest vocalists, plus V.I.T.R.I.O.L.'s own diverse vocal approach, offer up a cacophony of voices from the clean to the bestial. (It comes as little surprise to me to note that Attila contributes vocals in places - I'd recognise that deathlike gutteral snarl anywhere.) Not revolutionary, but certainly nothing to sneeze at.
