"Dark Medieval Times" is the debut full-length studio album by Norwegian black metal act Satyricon. The album was released in September 1993 by Moonfog Productions.

The music on the album is black metal featuring folky sections with acoustic guitar and flute. The more regular blasting black metal parts are raw. The rawness is further enhanced by the lo-fi and quite noisy sound production and the raspy vocals. The haunting atmospheric keyboards that grace many of those parts pull in a more majestic and at times epic direction though. The band often and skillfully change pace (check out the epic doomy nature of "Taakeslottet") and those tempo changes and the acoustic folky sections brings variation and make "Dark Medieval Times" an interesting and entertaining album throughout.

The music on "Dark Medieval Times" fully warrants a 4 star rating but the rather noisy and arguably lo-fi sound production drags my rating down to 3.5 stars.
