"Coffin Birth" is the debut full-length studio album by US, California based death metal act Extremity. The album was released through 20 Buck Spin in July 2018. It´s the successor to the 2017 "Extremely Fucking Dead" EP and features one lineup change since the EP as bassist Erika Osterhout has jumped ship, and the bass on the album was therefore recorded by vocalist/guitarist Shelby Lermo. Extremity formed in 2016 and released the "Extremely Fucking Dead" EP and this debut full-length studio album before disbanding in 2018.

Stylistically the material on "Coffin Birth" continues the old school death metal style found on "Extremely Fucking Dead". A combination of the best elements from the three major death metal/grindcore scenes of the late 80s/early 90s (the Swedish scene, the US scene, the UK scene). Extremity is one of the contemporary death metal acts with an inherently retro musical style, which sounds authentic and convincing. From the songwriting, to the performances, to the raw and brutal sounding production job, Extremity deliver the old school horror themed death metal goods.

There´s nothing here you haven´t heard before, but when you play a retro sounding musical style, originality isn´t always the top priority (in fact it´s almost never a priority), and listeners look for authenticity instead, and that´s where Extremity deliver. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
