"Chapter 13" is the 5th full-length studio album by Dutch death metal/ heavy metal act Gorefest. The album was released in February 1998 by Steamhammer. While Gorefest during the last couple of albums had more or less left their death metal roots behind, "Chapter 13" is arguably the least brutal album in their discography.

...the music on the album still has traces of extreme metal but "Chapter 13" is actually more or less a heavy metal album with raw vocals. Lead vocalist Jan-Chris De Koeijer even tries to vary his usual raw vocal delivery with some clean singing. The songs are generally simple vers/ chorus based heavy metal tracks with little variation between them. Some tracks stand out a bit more than others, but overall the album is not the most exciting experience and compared to earlier releases "Chapter 13" is a disappointment. The album lacks the brutality of the first two albums and the dominant melodic harmony leads of the next two. 2.5 stars are warranted for a rather mediocre effort. Not really bad but in the end way too standard and a far cry from Gorefest´s best releases.
