Obituary's second album finds the band in confident mode and playing solid death metal of the early 1990s style. A sicklier, more grotesque aesthetic than the esoteric fury of Morbid Angel or the curt brutality of Deicide, Obituary offer enough of a distinctive voice to feel individual whilst at the same time stick closely enough to the fundamentals of death metal to create an album which will appeal to most fans of the genre. Throw in an expert cover of Celtic Frost's Circle of the Tyrants, and you end up with a prospect that more than adequately proves Obituary's chops.

Your review prompted me to give this album a listen on this dreary Tuesday evening, and I can't thank you enough for that. Lots of great riffs to headbang to, and also some pretty heavy doses of nostalgia for me. Killer! :-)
