"Aftershock" is the 22nd full-length studio album by UK heavy rock/metal act Motörhead. The album was released through UDR Records in October 2013. In Motörhead´s case being legends and incredibly well respected by fans, critics and fellow musicians alike, have never made them rest on their laurels. Sure there are longer breaks between album releases these days, but the time between releases are always spend touring relentlessly. There are very few signs that these guys (and in particular band leader/bassist/lead vocalist Lemmy) have reached an age where most musicians have retired from the business or simply aren´t producing anything relevant anymore. And then again...even Lemmy can´t stay 20 forever, and his health has in recent years been getting worse.

Not that you´d notice when listening to "Aftershock", which features the same youthful energy and drive as anything the band have ever released. "Aftershock" features both fast and hard rockers, heavy tracks and a couple of blues based tunes like "Lost Woman Blues" and "Dust and Glass". There´s little here that´ll surprise a seasoned Motörhead fan. The album is produced by Cameron Webb and the sound production is both professional and well sounding and the band are as well playing as always. It´s an absolute joy listening to a band that really sounds like they love what they do. Mikkey Dee needs a special mention for his always powerful and technically skilled drumming. It´s not necessarily easy to make rock´n´roll drumming exciting to listen to for the duration of an album, but Dee has the chops and the skills to pull it off.

Upon conclusion "Aftershock" is yet another quality release by Motörhead. To my ears it´s not necessarily a "classic" in their discography and as the case are on many of their albums, there are fillers on "Aftershock", that don´t quite reach the heights of the best material on the album. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is warranted.
