A CHINESE FIREDRILL is project led by Joey Vera.

Joey Vera, who played in ARMORED SAINT, CHROMA KEY and ANTHRAX, is currently the bassist of progressive-metal band FATES WARNING. Vera has also worked with OSI and previously released a solo album titled "A Thousand Faces".

Joey Vera's career started in 1982 with his first band, ARMORED SAINT. After recording four albums with them, the group disbanded in 1992. Soon after, vera released his first solo album. After several brief experiences with many different genres, he joined FATES WARNING in 1996. He has recorded 4 albums with them since then.

Vera started engineering around 1996. After gaining experience with various bands and artists, Vera has produced and engineered his new project, A CHINESE FIREDRILL.

"Circles" was written, recorded and performed by Vera between 2005 and 2006. he played all the instruments in the album with the exception of the drums which were read more...

A surprising collection of tunes from veteran bass player Joey Vera on his "A Chinese Firedrill" project.

7 songs all with different musical foundations, tied together by strong atmospheres and songs interlocking; as well as some subtle details in the soundscape repeated throughout.

Mainly experimental in style, but the heavy use of synths as well as the laid-back vocal style here gives this release strong similarities to OSI - one of numerous bands and projects Joey Vera has bean involved in. The blend of metal tinged and ambient elements also resemble this other side project he's been involved in.

Recommended to fans of OSI, especially those that liked their second release "Free".
